ONEGITE (Quartz included with Goethite)

MRA=CKK      QUARTZ included with GOETHITE (onegite), GOETHITE

2nd Mesabi Claim, Lake George, Park County, Colorado

Collected by Ray Berry No. 1283

2 1/4" L x 2 1/4" W x 7/8" H (small cabinet). Looks a bit like a snapping turtle. Onegite is not a species, but a local name applied to quartz, usually amethyst, citrine, or commonly smoky quartz that contains goethite inclusions. This piece shows some chocolate brown crystals with mostly amethystine crystals around the edges. Multiple growth and terminated quartz makes this an interesting piece.

This onegite comes from a pocket collected by Ray Berry in the late 1970s, which produced what many consider the finest onegite crystals from the district.
